Espisode 70: Resonance
So here we are with Sora going nuts. Everyone is trying to stop him while Asuma and the newly revealed Kazuma are fighting off on their own. Pretty much nothing works on Sora, despite the reapeated efforts (if it doesn’t work the first time, why do it again?!). Naruto does his “I understand how you feel” thing and instead of solving the problem, Sora’s released chakra resonates with the real chakra inside of Naruto. Naruto begins to develop the fox’s cloak as well. Sora sprouts the fourth tail becoming the fully formed Fox that we’ve seen when Naruto went “four tails” as well. Naruto starts to change as well but stops the tranformation returning to normal. Everynow and then we see images of Sora, apparently his “inner conciousness” where he faintly hears Naruto’s voice. And that’s it. Serisously, we know Naruto is going to save the day, again, by merely making Sora his friend. It’s every freakin’ filler story. EVER. It’s just the details they like to change…
Episode 71: Friend
Naruto is still trying to bring Sora back from his out of control state, and Asuma is still fighting Kazuma. Asuma is getting nowhere with Kazuma until Sai, who snuck out of the hospital uses his techniques to bind Kazuma. After pointless conversation, Kazuma releases himself lunges at Asuma, but finally Kazuma falls dead having failed.
Naruto, on the other hand, keeps lunging at Sora getting beaten up. Finally, the chakra fully leaks out of him and then just dissipates because it didn’t have a body to inhabit. To that I say “super lame pointless ending”. No fighting, no inspiring Sora to come back, nothing. Just like letting the air out of balloon.
Sigh… However, after all these shenanigans, Sora leaves (so as to not interfere with the main story no doubt), and we suddenly cut to a scene of a girl running down a hallway. She outruns a large triple bladed weapon and escapes into a large canal area. We then see two men follow after her in the now very familiar flowered patterns of the Akatsuki robes. As they emerge, we see that these are two members whom we have not seen before, named Hidan and Kakuzu. The girl? She’s the two-tail Jinkuriki. Yeah, that’s right. It’s on!
Episode 72: Silently Approaching Threat
Finishing up a bit from the filler story (possibly still canon though), we first see Asuma reminiscing at the Third’s grave about his misunderstanding of the “king” of the Fire Country. Naruto and Sai are still in the Hospital, trying to recover (despite Naruto’s frustration in not being able to train), and Tsunade is getting reports that Akatsuki is on the move again. We then turn to Akatsuki who is still battling the “Nibi”, or the two tail Jinchuuriki. In the end, we only see the effects of the fight. The jinchuuriki is impaled on the wall, defeated, and Hidan is going through some bizarre religious ceremony where he somehow commits suicide, but doesn’t die. It’s a strange religion that we are to learn more of later on. The town, destroyed, as if some large blast tore it’s way through everything, leaving an unbelievable hole. The two akatsuki discuss their next movement… The fire country.
Episode 73: Akatsuki’s invasion
Naruto, back from the hospital, continues his training. This time, he is to further his skills by not cutting a single leaf, but an entire waterfall. Yamato expands the waterfall using his techniques, and Naruto creates shadow clones the length of the waterfall. While Naruto struggles with his training, Akatsuki find their way to the Fire Temple where Chiriku lives. It turns out there is a hefty bounty on the head of Chiriku which Akatsuki will use to fund their organization. When they get there to fight him, however, he is no pushover. Using a technique that calls upon hundreds of invisible fists, he fights off the two man team for a while. Ultimately, he falls, and the temple is virtually left in ruins. As the Akatsuki leave, they dicuss their plans to trade in Chiriku’s body for the bounty and then head to Konoha for the Nine-tail Jinchuuriki. That would be Naruto, for those not following the story very well.
Episode 74: Under the Starry Sky
This episode is fairly slow, to be honest. Not a whole actually happens. Naruto is still training, while the Akatsuki team is still on their way to the exchange point. Tsunade, desperate to find the Akatsuki members on their way to konoha, sends out four, four man teams to try and intercept them. Among them is Asuma, Ino, Choji, and Shikamaru (but they are not all on the same team). Naruto is still training. After several long hours of continual training, he finally succeeds in cutting the entire length of the waterall in half. Exhausted, he collapses.
Episode 75: The Old Monk’s Prayer
Asuma’s team reaches the hidden Fire temple to only learn of the devistation that was played out there. They learn that Chiriku was killed and taken, and Asuma mourns his death. They disucuss their plan, and realize that Akatsuki was most likely going to take in Chiriku for the bounty. Knowing the five locations of bounty exchanges, they send out messages to the rest of the teams, and then head out themselves. Before they leave, however, an Old Monk says a prayer for the team. Meanwhile, Akatsuki continue to walk on their way to exchanging their bounty. The conversation among these two is always tense with threatenings and accusations. They both have a temper, and seem to deal with each other, considering the other to be a nuiscence. Meanwhile, Kakashi begins to talk with Naruto about the next step of his training. He reveals that he also can perform Rasengan. We are left wondering, however, what this new training will be.
Episode 76-77: The Next Step, and Climbing silver.
This double episode has it all. Training, fighting, just your all-around something-for-everyone episode. They switch back and forth a lot, but I will separate out the two plot lines for simplicity. First, let’s talk about Akatsuki. We find them reaching their destination to make the exchange. They walk into a bathroom (in the middle of nowhere), through a secret door, and make the exchange. You can see the tension continue to rise with these two. While they are making the exchange, however, things are tense, for a different reason, for all the konoha teams preparing to ambush the Akatsuki team members. No one knows which location the two man team went to, so all are prepared. As it turns out it was Shikimaru and Asuma that found the right place. They ambush Hidan with the Shadow bind technique (using Shikiamaru’s shadow to paralyze an opponent), and two other ninjas go in for the kill. Having pierced his vital organs, the whole team is surprised to see Hidan perfectly alive, and apparently just really annoyed by the attack. The konoha team reassembles and decides to have just Asuma attack, making him a sacrifice to get Hidan (this is technique called a “Climbing Silver” in the chess-like game shoji, hence the title). Just as they seem to have finally gotten Hidan killed in a giant fireball, he turns to a skeletal looking black and white color. We’ll find out what this transformation means in the next episode.
Naruto, on the other hand, is learning what “the next step” is. He is taught that Rasengan is the ultimate in shape manipulation. The next step, one that the Fourth Hokage was trying, but failing to reach, was to combine rasengan with an element, in Naruto’s case, wind. Kakashi explains to him that this is the one technique that he cannot teach, as only a handful of Ninja are even capable of mixing these two skills (remember that a hokage couldn’t even do it). Kakahi also tells Naruto, sincerely, that he believes Naruto can surpass the fourth hokage in this technique. Naruto, naturally begins right away, but instantly realizes how hard it is. He thinks to himself that it’s like looking lef and right at the same time. This new technique causes him some strain, and suddenly we see the Kyuubi violently leaking out, causing the “fox’s cloak” to form. Yamato immediatly surpresses the Kyuubi, and Naruto collapses from the exhaustion.
Episode 78-79: Giving Judgement and Unfulfilled Scream
Now, you remember that explosion last episode? The one that Asuma unleashed on Hidan? Well, he comes out untouched. Asuma, however, is burned. Not really understanding why, Hidan then stabs HIS OWN LEG. The problem is that Asuma suddenly starts to bleed from his leg as well. What’s going on? Well not only is Hidan apparently immortal, he’s also caught Asuma in a type of Voodoo doll technique, only Hidan IS the voodoo doll. Anything that happens to Hidan, happens to Asuma. Hidan then takes out a large spike to tab himself in the chest. Apparently that’s his way of killing his oponents, by killing himself and feeling the pain of their death. It gives him some weird sort of high. Shikamaru, in desperation, using his shadow technique to confine hidan until he can figure out what’s going on. He recalls all the clues – the weird symbol Hidan is standing on, the fact that he ingested the blood of Asuma, and other clues. He realizes that Hidan has to stand on the symbol in order to have the voodoo effect. Using his shadow technique, Shikamaru moves him out of the circular symbol. Asuma then strikes completely chopping his head off as Hidan screams for help.
There’s only one problem here. Hidan really is immortal. Even with his head chopped off and lying on the ground, he yells over to his traveling companion, Kakuzu to help him out. Kakuzu now steps in, finally getting involved. Using some weird thread from his body, Kakuzu sews on Hidan’s head again. The last two members of the Konoha team (Izumo and Kotetsu) now move into action fighting against Kakuzu. They use a very stange looking and large head shaped weapon and a sort of liquid glue. Neither work on Kakuzu, however, as he detaches his hands using the same strange thread and is able to demobilize these two ninja. Meanwhile Asuma goes head on against Hidan. Hidan uses his huge three bladed weapon to impale himself, letting Asuma think that he had made a mistake. Only he had gotten back in the circle this time. Asuma, completely immobile now and injured beyond the ability to fight, watches as hidan takes out his spike. Shikamaru, completely exhausted from his shadow technique, is unable to do anthing other than vainly run after Asuma. Hidan then strikes the spike into his chest and falls to the ground with a look of pure pleasure on his face.

Hey, whoa there on the spoilers Raven. There is quite an audience of viewers out there that don’t read the manga and don’t want the story spoiled.

Eh. Can’t remember. I ended up customizing it so much anyway, the original might not be what you would be looking for.
